Evaluating Websites
How do we know if the information we are
getting off the internet is legit?
Over the
next two days, we will understand how to evaluate and collect information from
a variety of sources.
We will
understand that the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness,
and bias of electronic information sources can not always be trusted.
After our lesson, I will be able to evaluate the validity of information.
I will
be able to explain as well as apply the importance of evaluating the source and
validity of information.
Assignment One: Together we will answer the checklist on the following two sites to determine if these sites are reliable and why. We will be discussing this as a full class, so be ready to support your answers!
Challenge Activity: Take some time to find a reliable website and bring it to me tomorrow in class on a sheet of paper with your name. We will test to see how reliable your source is together.
Assignment Two: Based on what we learned yesterday, browse
the two sites below. You will have fifteen minutes to complete the survey about each site:
Critical Writing: Answer the following two questions in detail.
1. Why is it important to evaluate the source and validity of
information? Support your answer.
2. Which of the questions in the checklist do you think are most important when making research decisions? Why? Be sure to support your answer.
